Lima now has a resident physician , Dr. Boynlon of Jackson having moved to that place. Thomas Zahn, living south-west of Saline, broke his leg recently while cuttinjï down a tree. The Saline G. A. R. are preparing for a big time tomorrow evening at their Washington ball. At Gott lob Manu's :iw mili in Bridgewater, 54,000 feet if lumber were sawed in one weck recently. Eev. P. P. Farnuni, of Breckenbridge, has accepted a cali from the Baptist church at Stock bridge. , Friends of Rev. Yokom, of Saline, gave him a donation last week, and he 8$lü0 richer thereby. Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Carr, of Manchester, celebrated the 50ih anniversary of their wedding last week. George Miller, of Manchester, is nursing a hroken collar bone, caused by being thrown from a carriage. Howell now wants waterworks, and a committee of the cotincil is visiiing other cities in the state and inspecting the systems in use. The seennd annnal exhibition of the Eastern Michigan Poultry Breeder's association held at Ypsilanti, last week, was a decided success. T. C. Owen bas changed the name of the mineral water produced from his well, from "Ypsilanti" to "Atlantis" mineral water The editor of the Howell Republican is a lucky individual. He has been electeii an honorary member of the ladies' library association of that piare. Dr. Harry Nichols, who left recently for a southern trip to be gone several months, returned last week to Saline. He was disgust edwith both the southern country and the climate. Rev. T. VV. Valentino Brothers, of Webster, bought sume valuable Shropshire sheep of Henry Paul last Monday. The officers of the school in the Mills district have recently covered the platform with ctood Brussels carpeting, and the aisles with substantial matting. It is certainly very comfortable, and a great improvement, and tliose interested flatter themselves they have the model school of the county. Saline. Dr. Nichols returned home last week. Hugh Townsend was over from Ann Arbor, Monday. Miss Lottie Barr is entertaining her guest, Miss Tuttle, this week. Mr. and Mrs. Delos Townsend's two hildren are ill with scarlet fever. Miss Mary Wood, of Ann Arbor, was a Saline visitor the flrst of the week. The Union meetings were rontinned a part of this week, in the M.E. cliurch. Miss Dorothy Tenycke, of Ann Arbor, was a guest of Mrs. Townsend, Monday Fred and Miss Luella Clarke went to Ypsilanti, Monday evening, to visit relatives. The High school talks of presenting a comedy soon entitled " The Heroic Dutchman." Mrs. W. E. Caldwell returned from Centreville, last Friday, where she has been visiting her son. A number of George Chandler's numerous friends gave him a very pleasant surprise last Friday evening. Rev. Armstrong, who was, many years aso, pastor of the Baptist church nere, occupied the M. E. pulpit Sunday evening. Mr. and Mr. A. C. Clarke went to Ypsilanti, Monday, to attend a small gathering in honor of Mr. C's father's birthday. The donation at the Presbyterian parsonagp, Tuesday evening, was an enïoyable event. It will be llie last given Rev. Caldwell and family, as the family will move to Ann Arbor, next August. Last Friday evening, the High school went in a body to pay a visit to one of their members, Fred Wehb, who lives flve miles from here. He was completely surprised ; a most enjnyable evening was spent, the party returning home in the "wee small hours" of morniof. Last Wednesday evening, the night of the M. E. donation, at J. W. Hu U's, sonie person orpersons stole threesilver gpoons, two cakes, a pie, platter of meat, etc. As there is no trace of the spoons v or dishes, it is presumed they were retained by the individuals to start house keeping with. Chelsei. Wm.Arnold, of Dexter, was in town last Saturday. A eoodly number of Republicana will epend Thursda}' and Friday in Detroit. Gen. Mcllwain, of Wayne, was among his Chelea friends last Saturday and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Osborn spent Sunday vith Mrs. Osborn's parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Noyes. James Van Onlen, who has resided here some thirty-five years, died Thursday. Feb. 14. 1889, aged 74 years. Rev. Thos. Robin?on has resigned the pastnrate of the Baptist chureh in this place, to take effect in the spring. By an exchange of pul pits, Rev. F. M. Coildiniiton, of Lfslie, preached here, at the Congregational church, last Sunday. Mrs. Coll. Bnbcork and Mrs. Chas. Can field, go to Detroit Thursday to attend the Baptist state Sunday school convention. John Blaich and Frank Keek, of Cleveland, Ohio, have been guests of relatives and fr ends in this vicinity during the past week. Miss Phoebe Turnbull, who has spent about two montlis here wilh her parents, returned last Friday to the care of an invalid aunt living near St. Thomas, Ontario. Wm. Judson, C. H. Kempf, V. J. A R. post, delivered an oration. A man was found at the depot here last week, snpposed to be under the influence of l'quor, and was locked up. Some peculiarities in his case caused the village officials to retnain at the jail with him all night. He remained in the "cooler" until yesterday, when he was taken to a hotel where he now remains. George Barringer died on Monday at his residence, of congestión of the lungs. Eli Smilh, who has been afflicted with cáncer for 20 years, died at his residence on Tuesday, aged 78 years. He has been a resident of Salem 50 years. Slony Creeh. Tunis Horton and family have returned to Stony Creek. Several cases of small-pox have developed at Willis', and more are expected, as many have been exposed to it. T. E. Talladay, who has been making a visit in New York state, has returned. R. Salsbury entertained a nephew, Mr. Wikof, from Hillsdale county, last week. The operetta, "Red Riding Hood's Rescue, or the Penalty of Disobedience," was nrodnced laslSaturday evening at the York church. Mrs. L. H. Crane, aceompanied by her son Deney, went to Samaría last Friday evening to see Mrs. Crane's nephew, Allen Mason; who was vèry low with consumplion. D. M. Crane, who has been in the Upper Península fr Rome time, in the employ of tlie D. S. S. & A R. E., is at home vÍ8Íting friends and relatives in this vicinity. He inlends to soon go to California, where he has a most flattering offer. Tpsllanti. A "liutton hole social" held forth at S. H. Dodge's last evening for the benefit of the Episcopal chtiroh. At the valentino social last week, Prof. Sill took the prize for writing tne wittiest and P Sullivan the most profound pathos, sentiment, etc. Ypsi is sort of holding her breath to see if that natural gas well at the Sanitarium is going to make her famous. Anhow, the well will be utilized for heating and lichting the Sanitarium. Two young Japanese gentlemen will begin the commercial conrse at Cleary's business college next week. The big pouliry show stirred up the Ypsilantian to such au extent that it was able to prove that the hen as she is variously disposed gives an aggregate of $52 000 as the vahie of the poultry inarket in this city. Miss Berry, of Gnsse Isle, who has been ihe guest of Miss Grey the past week, retujned home Tuesday. Miss Grey, the high school preceptress, gave" a reception to about 100 friends last Friday evening. Mr. H. VV. James of Detroit, made his mother a short visit Monday.
