The Democra's will run the city government for the first year under the new charter, and thus will be responsible for any mismanagement which may occur. Mr. Beakes' good work in dralting the charter and seouring its passage mac'e him a favorite candidate. There weis those, however, who, apprehensive of what his attitude might be towards the liquor intereftí, were loath to place tueh great power in his hands as the appoinlment and removal of tne city marshal, and thus some voted for Dr. C. G. Darling, the Republicsn candidate. Mr. Beakes' pluralitv was 45 íess thn last year. The Prohibition vo!e for mavor was 98 smiller than one year ago. Mr. Beakes was elected, however, by the hands :me plurality of '225. There was only one larger p'urality, that of Fred H. Beker, for president of the council, who recfived a clean one thousand vots, leading his Repubhran opponent, A. M. Clark, by 348. Mr. C!ark is a comparatively new comer in Atn Arbor. Tfcere was a very warm struggle over the office ot city cleik. The Republicana had as a candidate Daniel O'Keefe, who, incapacitated in a most distressing wy for manual labor, 's vet competent to do the clerical work of the office of city clerk. There was much eympathy excited in his favor; his photograph, with a printed card Btating bis scquireinents, were posted at each polling plaw; and hard work was done for him. Yet James R. Bach had 1 14 more votes than Mr. O'Keefe. For assessor. Alben Gardner made a splendid run, his opponent, Mr. O Hearn, leading by only 108. For j ïstice of the peace, N'iah G. Butts, Democratie, beat Eugene K Fruoauff by only 98. Of the aldermen, the Democrats elected Cbristian Martin without oppoition in the Second; VVm. G. Snow by 35 plural - ty in the Third; Juhn O Mara in the Fourtb; and Oscar C. Spafford in the Fifth. These four, with tbe president of the council and the two Democratie aliermen, Messrs. Herz and Miller, who hold over. give the Democrats seven votes in the council. The R-publicans elpcted W. G. Dieterle in the Firt-t., and A. F. Martin in the Sixth. Mr. Martin had no opposition, as tüe Danmcrats seleoted no candidate alter Dr. Vaughan declined to run. The Republicana have four members of the jouucil who hold over, and thus they will have six votes. The Republicana elected two supervisor, and the Democrais four. For the amendment increasing the ;ovornor's salary, Ann Arbor gave 704 votes for, and 243against. For the constitutional Rmendment giving Kent county an extra circuit judge, thu city gave 509, and ■ii sgaiiiBt ït. The amendment, relative to corporations had 322 for and 87 agaiust. As was expected, Judge Grant ran far ahead of the ticket in Ann Arbor, coming wi'hin 59ofcarryiog the city. Tbere were 63 more votes cast for mayor than last year.
