Washington, Maroh 2a- Robert Todd Lincoln, who was yesterday appointed Minister to England, is the only survivor of the family of Abraham Lincoln. He was the eldest son and was born in Springneld, HL, August 1, 1ÏM3. He was Secretary of war ia Presidenta Oarfleld and Arthur's Oabinete, and since his retirement has practiced law in Chicago. Murat Halstead, nominated for United States Minister to Germany, was born in 18:29 at Hoss, Butler County,O. He is the editor of the Cincinnati Commercial-Gazette. Patrick Egan, named as Minister to Chili, ■was born in Ireland some forty-soven years ago. Hecametothis country in 188:2, and settled in Nebraska Thomas Eyan, of Kansas, named as Minister to Mexico, is a native of New York, where he was born in 1837. He has been a Iteprosentative in Congress for six bucceesive CougTesses, and was re-elected last iaiL John Hicks, who will go to Peru as Minister of the United States, is a native American, 42 years of age. He comes from Oshkosh, Wis., the homo of Senator Saw. yer, and is proprietor and editor of the Oshkosh Northwestern. Allen Thorndyke Rioe, nomlnated to be Minister to liussia, was born In MassacbusettslnlB53. He is a gradúate of Oxford University, England, and since 1SI6 has been editor and proprietor of the North American Review. Oeorge Bailey Loring, of Massachusetts, who is named for Minister to Portugal, is best known becanse of hls connection with the Department of Agriculture, of which he was Commissioner from 18S1 to 1885. He is 72 years of age, and is a Harvard gradúate. Sprinofield, 111,, March 20.- The Illinois Legislature yesterday passed a series of resolutions warmly commending President Harrison's selection of Mr. Lincoln as United States Minister to England. The Secretary of State was instructed to see that a suitably engrossed copy of the resolutiona wis transinitted to Mr. Blaine at Washington. Washington, March 29. - Every body seems to Ie pleased wlth the appointraent of Bobert Lincoln as Minister to England. Favorable comment has been made generally by tho prcss throughout the country. London, March 29.- The SL James' Oazette, commenting on the appointment of Mr. lïobert T. Lincoln as American Minister to England, says: "It is certain that Mr. Lincoln wlll be popular. "
