Waukkoa.v, 111., April 26.- Hon. Elijah M. Haines died at his home In this city Thursday moraing, aged 68 years. The iininediate causo of his death was paralysis of tha heaxt He had been sick for soine time, but Beemd in a fair way to recover. [Mr. Hulnes was bom in O leída Oounty, N. Y. He carne West in 1835, studied law and becamo a successful practitioner. He was for mauy yeai s ia public 1 fe, especlally as u member of the Leislature, havint; been eleoted seven different times to a seat in tb.it body. In Í885 he was enojen Speaker of the lower House on account oí a deadlock in which he held the balanco of power. He was a mem ber of the present Legislature. He was the author of "A Treatise on the Powers and Duties of Justas of tha Peace," which is al presenta Standard author ty. He compiledtha law of Illino s and several other States od Townshlp Organization. He was also thfl author of a yery satisfactory histoiy of Indian tribes, and at the t me of his death was ent gaged on a history of Illinois, the mater. als fol which he had been colleclinu for muny years.]
