WOODS OK ITBE. Detroit, Mleh., May 9.- Dlspatches froin Northeni Michigan say that forest lires have destroyed the villages of Bruee'8 Crossing and O'Brien, and partly wiped out Spalding, Sulllvan and Stambaugfi. The llames reached the Vulcan mines near Norway, destroying twenty dwellings. Hundreds of persons are homeless. Madison, Wis., May 9. -Rain feil over the largest portion of Wisconsln yesterday, extinguishing the forest fires and savlng the burning crops and graas of the farmers. Nkstoria, Mich., May 10.- Fires are burning in foresta between Hill Creek and Matchwood. The post-offlce, expresa office and railway station at 8t Collins have burned and trolns are compelled to run through a wall of flre. Cheboygan, Mich,, May 10. - Heavy forest fires at Presijue Isle and in the southern part of the county are doing much damage to valuable standing timber. The fire in places on this divison of the Michigan Central extends across the tracks and traína are obliged to move oautiously through the dense smoke. Nestobia, Mich., May 11.- Rellable advlces from the south-shore extensión in the homestead district are to the effect that fully 8350. 000 damage was done by the forest fires of thia week. A number of houses belonging to homeBteaders were burned, but the loss was prlncipally on standing pine. The fires extended from Matchwood to Hlll Creek and iar Into the interior. Heavy rains have fallen and all danger is past St. Paul, Mlnn., May 11.- Heavy rains have extlnguished the forest fires In this Btate and in Dakota. The damage has been enorxnous.
