The Reason Why

Having been asked as to the reasons for not observing a public childrec's day tnis year.I take this meansofansweringtbequestion, as my individual opinión in the matter. Last May three citizens became possessed of an idea. They endeavored to enlist the interest of other individuals and orgnizitions, and flnally the idea was put into form aad carried out as a public event, with what result there seems to have been but one opinión. This opinión was publicly expressed in the city papers and the Detroit papers at the time, and so far as can be ascertained by personal inquiry the same opinión holds today, namely: That children's day, as obsprved last year, was an occasion of great enthusiasm and delight for ali concerned. In short, that it met a need which had not been met before. Why thett is it not perpetnated ? Well, either the three men are wanting, or else the idea after being given to the city has lost its strength, by diffusion as it were, and no organization seems able to gather up into an effort. We may gather, perhaps, on inference right here as to whether ideas work through individuals or through iriStitutions.
