Here are portraits of two of the wirm of the attaches of the Corean legation at WuhIngtou, whose transportation from Corea to America is said to hare been the first journey beyond the bounda of the Hermit kingdom ever undertaken by Corean women. As every uno fondly believed this was quite enough, in all conscience, for the Corean ladies to hope for In the way of prograv. But, haviug succeeded in leaving Corea, they could sec nu reason why they should uot êso and be seen of men and women other than Coreans, though for a Corean woman to show horself away from home is a terrible matter in Corea. So when there vu a big reception at the Japanese legation not long ago, the Corean women dressed themaelves secretly and left the legation of Corea ahortly af ter their husbands, joining them at tho legation of Japan.
