Law banquet !ast night. A big time. Commencement jast four weeks from to-day. Dr. Prescott was absent on a trip to New York, last week. The campus is being put in shape for commencement week. The University and Cass clubs play a game at Detroit to-day. The social at the Hobart Guilt, last Friday evening was a great success. The Glee club concluded their concerts for the seaaon at Jaekson last Friday evening. Dr. Stowell severa his connection with the University at the end of the present semester. Over siity bicylea are owned among the students, and the new Bicycle Club should be a success. The election of officers of the Students' Lecture Association will be held on Saturday morning, June 2nd. Prof. Pettee intends to go to Denver, on Tune 18, to attend the annual meeting of American Institute of Mining Engineers. Regent Whitman and secretary Wade are at Lansing again this week working for the University appropriation bill in the senate. The Argonaut had a strong editorial on the " medical question " last week, which shows the direction of opinión among the students. Gaylèy, Lange and McLaughlin, of the faculty, will give instruction during vacation, at the Oswego Summer School of Languages. The party at the Psi U. house, last Friday evening, was a pleasant affair. Ladies were from Jaekson, Detroit and elsewhere about the state. The Delta Sigma Delta fraternity entertained a number of their Detroit and Ann Arbor friends field day, with a very pleasant reception in the evening. The senior class is not interested in leaving a memoria}. At a meeting called last Thursday to discuss the question, no quorum was present. The juniors beat the freshmen 19 to 14 in the inter-class series of games, last Friday aftf.rnoon. This makes the sixth successive victory for the juniors. The University base ball club played a game at Grand Rapids, last Saturday. They missed field day but had the satisfaction of defeating their opponents, 25 to 1. An invitation has been received from Chancellor W. H. Payne to the commencement exercises of the Peabody Normal College, University of Nashville, May 2429. The lacrosse game arranged between the University and Grand Rapids teams for to-day has been declared off. An effort is being made to arrange a game at Detroit, Saturday. "The idea of figuring the time by the hour of the man who can perform such an operation as that," was the egotistical remark of one of the professors upon finishing an operation recently. The inter-college field day exercises will be held on the fair grounds in Hillsdale on June 6, 7 and 8. The University and the colleges at Albion, Lansing, Hillsdale and Olivet are in the association. The board of regents will probably meet next week, to make arrangements for erecting the new building on the campus, provided the senate passes the appropriation bill and the governor signs it bfore that time. Justice F. M. Harían of the United States supreme court, who was to have addressed the law students at the coming commencement, has been obliged to cancel his engagement. The address will be given by ex-Gov. Felch. Justice Harían writes that nothing will be allowed to prevent his delivering the address nezt year. Prof. Henry Sewall has accepted a chair in the faculty of John Hopkins University. His re8ignation has not yet been presented but undoubtedly will be at the next meeting of the regents. Dr. Sewall will be missed here as he is a young man of great ability. Since coming here his health has been gradually failing, the climate here being too severe for him. By the change he hopes to recover his health. The Bicycle Club takes a run around the the triangle today, with the Ypsilanti club. The Ypsi club will come here in the morning, then to Saline and Ypsilanti, our boys coming back to Ann Arbor in the evening. Upon their arrival at Ypsilanti, they will be entertained at the residence of Prof. Bailey by the Ypsilanti wheelmen. The class of '92 met Saturday morning and elected the Oracle board as follows : Miss May Carpenter, Gamma Phi Beta; Miss E. M. Krolik, Delta Gamma ; VVm. Miller, Psi Upailon; W. J. L. Lyster, Delta Kappa Epsilon; A. C. Rogers, Alpha Delta Phi;" Fitzhugh Burns, Sigma Phi; A. O. Gormley, H. C. Buckley, S. M. Trevellick and C. P. McAlla8ter, independents. The maternity ward added to our hospital this year is filled, and Dr. Martin has been obliged to refuse applicants for admission. This added improvement seems to meet the want of the students exactly and Bince it has proven such a success under the care and enthusiasm of Dr. Martin we hope that our new hospital will be planned with a generous allowance of space for this department. - Chronicle. A bicycle club ha been organized among the wheelmen of the University, the following ofiScers having been elected : President, W. C. Jackson; vice president, S. Chaney; secretary, C. Vaughn; treasurer, P. W. Ross; captain, F. T. Fisk; Ist lieutenant, E. E. Stone ; 2d lieutenant, T. E. Barnum; bugler, M. Wells. A constitution was adopted, and it was decided that all wheelmen enrolling their names before June Ist, shall be charter members. Next Saturday evening the election of officers of the Alpha Nu literary society will be held. After the election an "English programme" will be presented, as follows: music by quartette; "An English country home" by W. O. Helleir; reading, "The Queen," by C. E. Filkins ; music by F. Briggs; "English feudalism" by J. M. Edson; "Monarchy" by J. Devlin; debate, "resolved that the English monarchy is beneficia!" by M. W. Williams and L. D. Carr ; music, "God save the queen," by quartette. President Angelí is on a western tour this week looking after the future interegts of the University. He lelt last Saturday evening, going Crst to Mankato Minn., where he addressed the literary societies of the State Normal school on Monday evaning. Tuesday he spent in visiting the schools at Winona, and Wednesday at Minneapolis among the schools and the alumni of the L ot M. He goes to Kansas City today to be present at the alumni banquet of the Kansas City U. ol M. alumni to be held tomorrow night. FIELD DAY. The eighteenth annual spring field day sports were held on the fairgrounds on Saturday afternoon under the auspices of the Base Ball Association, and were the most successful exhibition of athletic sports e?er held here. The weather was good and a large crowd was present, numbering fully 1500. The contests were close and exciting, all the more 80 on account of the large number of contestants from Detroit, Hillsdale, Olivet and Lansing The members of the Detroit athletic club carried ofif rather more than their share of the prizes and showed the advantage over the UniTersity students of a gymnasium training. The hundred yards dash was a fine race and the light weight and heavy weight sparring matches were exciting, although more "slugging" qualities than science were shown in both matches. A farmer appearing young man appeared as a contestant in the light weight wresthng contest against F. L. Smith. and after ach had won a fall, it was ascertained that the innocent farmer boy was a professional and he was ruled out of the contest. The winners of the events were as follows: 100 yards dash, J. Owen, Jr., D. A. C, lOJs, F. T. Ducharme second; light weight sparring, C. C. Carnahan, Hillsdale; heavy weight sparring decided a draw after four bloody rounds between R. A. Ward, HilUdale, and S. Sherman ; lightweight wrestling, F. L. Smith; throwing hammer, D. F. O'Brien, D. A. C, 78.18 ft, J. R. Jenkins, Normal School, second; running broad jump, A. F. Watkins, 19.05 ft; 120 yards hurdle race, F. T. Ducharme, 18s, W. M. Ferry second; standing broad jump, F. T. Ducharme, 12.16 ft; putting shot, D. F. O'Brien, D. A. C, 30 ft; 220 yards dash, J. Owen, Jr., D. A. C, 24s, F. T. Ducharme second; throwing base ball, Q. L. Case, Michigan Agricultural college, 332.30 ft; 880 yards dash, R. A. Ward, Hillsdale, 2m. lis, finishing on a trot; B. S. Warren, D. A. C, second; running high jump, J. Van Iawagen, 5 ft.
