The Board of Fire Commissioners held an interesting meeting on Tuesday evening, all the members being present The principie business was to take action on the recent request of the council, asking the board to dispense with the services of Jacob Hauser and his team at the engine house, as the council deemed it useless to keep them there. The commisgioners did not seem to agree with the council, and the following resolution was passed in opposition to their request : To the Honorable, the Conimon Council of Ann Arbor : Gentlkmen : The resolution of the common council recommending the Board of Fire Commissioners to aischarge Jacob Hauser with his team, has been received and consxdered. The Board are of the opinión that this city can not afford to dispense witn a second team during the night, aa the condition of the department ia, at present , very weak. In the opinión of the Board it is impracticable to depend on a yolunteer company to haul the hook and ladder truck, as it is heavy and not suitable tor a hand truck. Further dtfflculty would be experienced in securing a volunteer company to work in harmony and efficiently with a paid department. To depend on a team from a livery stable does not seem expedient. In conclusión the Board desire to expresa themselves as willing to dispense with the services of Jacob Hauser and his team, if the common council wül provide a team to take their place. The chief was instructed to present the names of six men, to act as miaute-men at a salary of $8 per month. The chief vas instructed to use the hall as a eleeping room for the men. and arrangements were made to provide bedB and bedding for their accommodation. Badges, belts, spanners and hats were ordered purchased for five paid men. The clerk was instructed to receive sealed bids for furnishing 500 feet of cotton hose. A committee was appointed to prepare rules and regulations for the government of the department. The Board then adjourned, to meet on Wednesday evening with the Board of Public Works and decide upon plans for remodeling the engine house.
