The committees from the common council and Business Men's Association held a joint meeting and appointed H. J. Brown as a special committee to comoiunicate with H. W. Ashley, general manager of the T. & A. A., in regard to the date on which the company would furnish a train. Judging from the tone of Mr. Ashleys reply there is a hitch in the arrangement8 and our citizens will not have the pleasure ot the trip to Cadillac as proposed. Mr. Ashley's letter is as follows: H. J. Bkown, Esq., Ann Arbor, Mich.: Df.ar Sir: I have your letter of the 23d inst. I regret that Mr. Paisley should have allowtd himself to makesuch a sugge;tion. It has been our practice to glve free excursions to the citizens of the towns into or through which our roads run when they are first opened. We began this when our line was opened to Ann Arbor from this point, and last year brought the business men of Cadillac to the different points along the line south. I coold not, however, comply with such a request as your letter contains for reasons which must be obviou to you- every town on the road would be justitied in making a similar request. Toledo, O., Aug. 24, 1889.
