The next meeting of the S. W. Farmer's Club will be held at the residence of J. T. S paford, Manchester, Jan. The next meetingof the Saline Farmere' Club will be held at the house of H. W. Bassett, on the second Friday in January. Manchester gloats over the fact that tb births in that town recently aiore than equal the deaths and marriages combined. The recent rains have caused the water in Whitmore Lake to rise, and there is a hope that there will be more than f rog pcnd there next year. Daniel Wright of Unadilla has had four darkies from "Old Virginia" working for him, but they couldn't stard the Michigan winters and have returned to the south. The Saline Farmers' Club has decided to bold a farmers' institute, and A. A. Woed, S. B. Crittemlen and G. C. TowuBend have been appointed to make t,he arrangements. An aUempt was made to organize an asssembly of P. of I. at Stockbridge last week, büt the necessary number of signers (and dollars) could not be laised. Another trial will be made. There are thieves around Dexter who -will steal anything, from a pin to a house and lot. A twenty gallon crock is the latest thing that ia missing, and a justice is anxious to interview the man ihat carried it away. The Chelsea man who misses getting -kaved on Saturday, will be obliged to uass the Sabbath in the house or go inïO the woods, as Cheidsea barbers have iecreed that they will do no more Sunday shaving. There is some talk at Manchester of having Hon. Geo. L. Yaple, the gon of destiny who failed to be elected governor of tiiis state, speak there next month. His subject will probably be: "What I know about getting left." TZ. O. Leonard of Milán, has decided that his family shall see a little real -winter, in place of miserable weather that Michigan is now havinp, and the entire family will start for Idaho in a few weeks unless the weather changes. E. V. Chilson of the South Lyon Picket, has been elected "N. G." of the Oddfellow's lodge at that place. We Aon't know "X. G." means, but take it for granted that it does not mean "no good,1' or Bert would not have been ehosen. The idea of organizing si debating Bociety at Dexter does not meet with enthusiastic support ainong the young men of that vicinity. Two meetings were held, but were so slimly attended that the idea has been abandoned fcr the present. A debating society that meets on the dry goods boxes, is the nly one that will "catch on" in Dexter. The family of Gottfiied Deiterle, -arho lives west of Saline, seems doomed to be exterininated by diphtheria. Three children died frora this cause about a month ago, and last week the West son was carried away by the suue disease. The two remaining cfaildrenare both down with it, and the bard of health bas taken them in cbarge. A large affair in form of an oíd fashvjoed kissing bee was held at Noble Giimore's Friday evening. in honor of Will Bunting, of Ludington, who is visiting his oíd home. James Murray of Green Oak is the loser of a well-filled pocket book, which te would still have if he had been a eonfiding man and let his wife into his private affairs. He hid the pocketbook in a bundie of papers, not telling Vis wife anything about it. A pedler carne along, bid a cent a pound lor the baadle and took it. When Murray carne home trouble began. The pedler was chased several miles and finally captured, but the money and pocketbaok could not be found.
