At the annual ineetinc; of the s ciety, the di-cussion on the Ciuse and use of sprouta from plum and pcar tiee8 was opened by Mr. O R. L. Croïier. Neatly all present were interested in this topic. It was was well worth a membership of the society to learn all the facts in this cise. President Baldwin cal'ed on all preeent to report on their succestes aud reverses in fruit growing during the year. In bernes a saiisfactory erop wa9 reported, also in peaches, with the exoeption of Hill's Chili, whicn for geveral years haa proved a f'ailure. Mr. Baldwin scated that this variety must be planted in the richest soil. Pears and plums did welL Pear trees, especially Clapp's Favorite, were bad'y used up by blight. Grapes were reported a failure with the exception of Mr. Baldwin, who had good grapes not injured by rot nor the hail storm and realiz-d good prices. Vegetables were a triture with Mr. W. F. In order to make shipojent by freight a sucjess two men had to be hired, one here and one in Detroit. A car had lo be totted up. Mr. Chaileg Paihll notiüed every shipper on the Ann Arbor fruit car of their Binall tax. The arrangement by the commitiee was so suooesstul that not one failure oceurred. This is very important in the shipment oí berries and peaches. La-t year soine heavy lossea we e sustained by tbe absence of these agencies. Tce scientists ot the University wer re-elected tor their respective offices of Bntomology, Ornithology, Hygiëne, Cliraatolofjy, etc. Mr.Toms exhibited the Atlantic and Greeningapples, first cla-s for culinary and eating purposes.
