The regular meeting of the common council was held Monday eveaing, a full board being present. The acceptanoe of the franchise by the Ann Arbor Street Railway Co., was rcoeived and placed on file. A petition was recaived asking that an electric light be placed at the corner of Fifth and Madison-sts; also from H. Kittredge asking permissioa to erect sheds on hts property on Ann-st. Messrs. Hamilton, Sheehan and Rose submitted another proposition in relation to the presentation of the land far a park, making it necessary for the city to spenü $300 a year lor three years in improvemenw, after the land had been taken into the city limits. Tlie finance conomitte submitted their report on the bilis for the month, and warrant were ordered drawn upon the i'unds as follows: Contingent fund $1,104 93 Pólice nb 00 Waier " 2,532 60 Poor " 124 69 Firemen's " 820 84 Street " 445 62 Total H.643 68 The assessor having assessed C. H. Worden for $800 more bank stock than he owned, on recommendation of the finance committee the tax on this amount ($1019.) was ordered paid back to Mr. Worden. Tne estáte of A. A. Wood was allowed $5 99 on the same conditions. Several other petitions for return taxes were laid over until all the taxes were cllected. An ordinance which is intended to control the actiona of porters, runnerB and drivers was passed on third readiug. Tha lighting committee reported in favor of locatine a light at the corner of Packard and Hill-sts, instead of further out on Packard-st as contemplated. This report was adopted. The park committee were in favor of accepting the bequest of land from Mesers. Hamilton, Sheehan and Rose, on the last proposition made by them, and the report waa adopted. Aid. Herz being the only member to vote in the negativo. The city treasurer reported the city funds overdrawn $13,765.08. The poor tnaster reported the following expenditures during December : Ist ward, $tU4; 2nd ward, $9 71; 3rd ward, $2841; 4th ward. $69 58; 5th wsrd, $13.01 ; 6th ward, $9 33; total, $130.38. The marshall reported seven arrests during the month, four for being druuk, two for vagrancy and one for larceny. P. Gallagher was granted permission to cut down the willow trees in front of his property on Pontiac-st. The council then adjourned.
