Will it please inform us in what issue of The Rkgister it found the item, or proceed to come down off its roost as gracefully a8 possible. What's the matter with these democratie papers, anyhow? Have they got lagrippe? tot is fortúnate that at one time The Register had an editor who became imbued with the ideas of Henry George and a few other notions of a similar nature, otherwise the Courier could not answer The Registeh's objectionsto the eourse which has been taken in postoffice matters here. As it is, the Courier thinks that to recall this fact is all that is necessary in order to excuse ■Capt. Allen's eourse. How profound. Tak e it all in all, there is no place on earth much more desirable to dweil in than our own State of Michigan. ;uul everyone whose lot happens to be eust here has reason to be proud of his citizenship, as did the Roman of old. Alhough it was the 2Gth state admitted nto the unión, it has rapidly outstripped in point of importance and, wealth twenty of ita older rivals, and is only exceeded by New York, Pennsylvania Massachusetts, Ohio, Illinois, and California, lts growth in the last decade has been simply marvelous. In the census year 1880 its assessed valuation was $578,000, and the real wealth estimated at $1,370,000,000. For the year j ust closed Michigan's assessed valuation is $945,000,000, and its real worth estimated at $2,501,000,000.
