An ingenieras device has been patented by Mr. J. H. Fagan, of Chicago, for closing steam and other valves quickly. In the application of this device the ordinary Bcrew thread is not dispensed with except when, through accident, it becomes necessary to shut down suddenly. An independent bushing is used to carry the ordinary operating screw of the valve, which by a simple attachment can be locked in place, thus utilizing tha screw thread for raising or lowering tha yalve, or in case of accident or necessity it can be relieved, and by the aid of the lever instantly owered toshutofï steam.
