J. T. Jacobs, the newly ele;t.ed oommander of Welch Post, G. A. R , of this city, saw considerable service duiiog the war, and saw all the different phasei of ft oldiers life - active eiigagemenU, skirmish duty, garrison duty, and ituprigonment. From the Roster of Ohio Volunteer iers the following facts in regard to his army record have b-en gat'iered. He enlsted as a prvite in Co. B , 96th Regt., O. V. I., on Aag 11, 18G2, and was apnointed cnrn r 1 on Ypr. 4, 1863. At the bittle of B-i n 1 Co esu, Li., on Nov. , he wa captured and was in prison until Christmas day, when he was exchanged. He received his discharge from the 9Gth Regt. on Sept. 21, 1861, to ■i O p'. a promotiea as Adjutant of' the 178:h Reg'., which office he held until he was mustered out at the close of the war. Daring his term of service he was engaged in the followitig battles : Cdickasaw Bluffs, Miss., Dec. 28-29, 1862 ; Arkansas Post, Ark., Jan. 11, 1863; siege of Vicksburg, May 18-July4, 1863; Jacksoc, Miss., July 9-16, 1863; Grand Coteau, L., Nov. 3, 1863; Saline Cros Roads, La. Apr. 8, 1864; Siege of Murireesboro, 1864; Skirmsti at Wise's Forks, N. C. ; Garrison duty at Charlotte, N. C, at close of war.
