Lokdon, March 3.- A dispatch received here states that the British steamcr Quetta, whiob sailed from Au3tralian ports for London, has boon lost at sea. The number of persons drowned is not definitely known, but the dispatch says that a fearlul number perished. The report of the loss of the British steamer Quetta is conflrmed at Lloyds. The advioes received there state that 164 lives were lost. The Bteajner struok a rock not shovvn on thechartat 9 o'clock Friday night near Somerset, in the Torres straits, at the nortfhern extrem ity of Australia, and sank in three minutes. The Quetta was a vessel of 2,254 tona barden. A dispatch from Brisbane, Queensland, says that the Quetta had 280 souls on board, of whom 116 were saved, including the captain and several offlcers.
