Washington', March 24. - General Robert C. Schenck, ex-Minister to England, died at his residenoe in this city at 5:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon of pneumonía after a brief illncss. He had been slck only a few days. and liis condition was not considerad dangeroua until Saturday, when a cbange for the worse took placo, lie was consjious until a few monients before his death. Tbe funeral arrangements will be in charge of Mr. Warder. The interment will take placo at Dayton, O. In view of the diphtheretic complications in the case the funeral will be strictly private. [Robert C. Schend; was born m Franklin, Warren County, October4, 1&: graduated at Miatni Univcrslty in 18y?; was admitted to the bar in is;u and settled in Dayton. He served in the Ohio Legislature in 1H40-2, ard was a Representativein Congress during 1843-51. Ha was appointei Minister to Bra.il by President Fillmore, and during bis residence in South America took part in negotiating a numberof treaties. He entered the anny in 1K61 as Brigadier-General. He was elected to Congress In 1863, and was re-elected to tbe Thirty-ninth, Fortieth and Forty-first Congresses, servIng part of tbe time os chairman of the committee on ways and ineans. In 1870 he was appointed Minister to Englan.l. and it was while serving in this oapadty that he lisued his famous treatise on the National game which gained ior him the sobriquet of "Poker Bob' which, by the way, he disliked. Upon his return to the United States he settled at Washington, where he had sinee been engaged in the praetice of liis proíe-ision as a lawyer. ] Washington, March 2S. - The funeral of the late General Schenck took place at 1:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
