At the monthly meeting of the society Mr. J. J. Parshall presided, Mr. Baldwin being uoable to attend. The arsenitej were discussed. The chairman last seasoa used pure arseaic one ounoe to 33 gallons of water. The artenic is dissolved ia hot water with concentrated lye. Proportion, IJ ounces of the lye to 1 ounce of the arsenic, or IJ pounds of ye to G ouaces arseoio for 6 bamU of water. The undersigned stated that Germán pomologists have ob=erved that gheep in orchards keep away the codling motli and the curculio. The insects cannot bear the smell of (he sheep which rub against the trunk of the tree. Sheep nunure is pr zed highly as a fertilizar for tree3. Application of cow manure to the trunk of the tree prevenís theep froin gnawing the bark. Mr. GaDzhjrn addressed the society on shortening m of peach twigs. It saves thinning the fruit, prcbngs the life of the tree and improves the size and quality of the fruit. Snow'a OraDga peach is a delicious fruit, better tban the Crawford, superior lor canning; when well cut back ol goed size, otherwise too fmall. Yellow Rareripe, large yellow peach, like gold inside. Tree not very hardy. J. J. Parchall: Loid Palinerston is the greatest humbug among peaches. In trimming peach trees never cut a limb off close to tbe trunk, else rot will set in ; leave a stuiup two or three inches long which does not rot as in other trees, but becomes hard like hom. Other fruit trees have to be trmmed close to the trunk. The Weger peach is worthlea?. The Foster is very large, sells well. Prospect tor peaches never better. Thi8 is a Baldwin year and the apple erop looks promising. Thawing and freezing killed many strawberry plaats last winter. The ohairinau would not have any oue trim peach trees for hitn ; ha shortened in and trimm;d during laat winter 5,000 peach trees. The younger members of the society blushed, the older ones bowed. Only one who knows wtiat the trimming ot a peach tree #. has an idea of this giganlic job, especially in a winter with so great a numid.ty and sudden changes. No wonder the influenza on-eed the uoble trimmer on bis ladder. Mr. Stephen Mills exhibited fine speoimenB of Peok's pleasant, Wagner, and a red, small apple of bet keeping qualities, not koowa t.) those present. K. Baur: Toe Jonathan whicb. at this season, has lost its accidity and is of the highest quahty. I bode Island, English Rassen and D'Aremberg pears, which last till pears ripeii a_'nin. Mr. Baldwia has been confined to his room for soma time; y et on fruit topics he is as estbusiastic as, ever. May he Boon be restored. DiieJ apples have so adyanoed that Mei-sra. Allmendinger & Schneider are encouroged to enlarge their plant for drying. Home industries sbould alwayg be encouraged. The manufacture of soap is a pertect tuccess fo far as the article ia concerned which is tutned out, and every good einzen hopesaad wishes that ït will be a financial mcce.-B to the manufacturero. Why hould we not have a butter and cheese factory, and the manfacture of wooleo goods in r.urcity?
