v va.tr. Washington, April 2. - The Senate committee on pensions reported favorably yesterday the bilí granting a pension of S100 a month to the widow of the late General Hartranft. A bilí was introduced regulating the manufacture, sale and importation of lager-beer. Washington, April 3.- In the Senate yesterday Mr. Edmunds reported a substituto for Mr. Sherman'santi-trust bill, entitled: "A bill to proteot trade and commerce against unlawful restraint and monopolies." The rest of the day was devoted to the Montana Senatorial contest. Mr. Hoar presented the major ity reportfavoring the admission of tho Republican claimants and Mr. Gray spoke for the minority, which recommended the admission of the Democratie contestants. Washington, April 4. - The Senate upentmost of the session yesterday in debating the Chinese enumeration bill, which finally went over. The Montana Senatorial contest was discussed and laid over without action. A bill was introduced to regúlate the compensation and per diem of laborers employed by the Government. Adjourned to the 5th. Washington, Apfil 7. - In the Senate on Saturday bilis were passed for the inspection of meats for export; to provide for town-site entries in Oklahoma; appropriating $150.000 for an Indian industrial school at Flandreau, S. D.; appropriating 8500,000 for an additional fire-proof building for the National Museum; to give preference to honorably discharged soldiers in appointment to civil office; for an assistant general superintendent and chief clerk of the railway mail service at salaries of $3,000 and 82,000; giving a pension of $100 a month to the widow of General Hartranft. Senator Ingalls introduced a bill to establish a department of banking, where the banking business of the people can be done at cost. Mr. Hlair offered an omnibus pension bill, a bill limiting to 640 acres the amount of public domain to be held by any personor Corporation and ameasure to settle railway troubles by arbitration. Washington, April 8. - Resolutions were presented in tiie Senate yesterday agaiiist the pending bill for a census enumeration of the Chinese. A memorial was presented for the admission of New Mexico as a State, and the Montana election case was discussed. HOUSE. Washington, April 2 - In the House yesterday bilis were introduced to establish a National banking code; providing that pensions granted to the dependent relatives of deceased soldiors shall take effect from the date of the soldier's death. Bills were passed limiting to six years the time witViin which suits may be brought against accounting officers and their bondsmen; Senate bill creating the offices of surveyors-general in North and South Dakota; admitting free of duty articlea trom Mexico to the St. Louis exposition in 1890, and the fortifleations appropriation bill ($4,681,678). Washington, April 3. - In the House yesterday the bill for the admission of Idaho as a State was discussod. A bill was introduced to repeal the act making fractional silver coin a legal tender for only $10, and increasing1 the limit to $20. Washington, April 4. - In the House yesterday a concurrent resol u tion was presented requesting the President to invite arbitration with foreign governments to settle disputes or differences. The bül for the admission of Idaho was passed by ycas 180, nays 1. the Democrats refusing to vote and the Speaker countincr a quorum. Washington, April 5. - In the House yesterday a joint resolution was introduced providing for the election of Senators by the qualifiV'd voters of the States. Favorable reports were made on the bilis to prevent the enlistment of aliens in the navy; to investigate the liquor traftU': granting1 a pension of $100 per month to the widow of General Kilpatrick; providing that all publicationsi purporting to be issued periodically and to subscribers, but which are merely books, shall pay postage as third-class matter. At the evening session thirty private pension bilis were passed. Washington, April 7. - In the House on Saturday bilis wero passed providing ior retaining four dollars from each month's pay of enlisted men during the first year of enlistment, to be forfeited unless there is an honest and faithful service; increasing to eleven the membership of the board of managers of tha National homes for disabled volunteer soldiers. Washington, April 8. - In the House yesterday a motion to suspend the rules and pass the dependent ponsion bill was defeatod by a vote of 169 to 87 - not the necessary two-thlrds vote in the afflrmative. The army appropriation bill ($20,804,820) was considered, and the legislativo appropriation bill ($21,000,000) was reported.
