Vacation this week. The Univer3ity opens again for work next Tuesday morning. The Glee and Banjo Clubs left, Friday morning, on the elegant hotel car, "City of Saginaw." The Webster Society is making a"rangements to give another public program on May 9. During the vacation the buildings oc the campus and the grounds are receiving their spring cleaning. The ninth annual convention of the D-Jlta Tau Delta fraternity will be held at Albion, commencing today. Fully two-thirds of the studente are out of town this week. Sonae of those who live too far away to go home during the eho t vacation are "doing" Detroit, Toledo, Chicago and other interesting place?. Owing to the death of Dr. Frieze the work in Latin has been re-arranged. The work will be in charge of Prof. F. W. Kelsey and a special announcement h s been issued showing the details of the course for 1890-91. The fourth annusl cocvention of the Mijhigan ínter Collegiate ProLibition Association was held at Adrián, Friday and Saturday. Ia the oritorical contpst the U. of M. was represented by C. V. Nafe, who chose for his subject "Manifest Destiny of Prr.hibition," and secured the flrst prize of $20. Upon the return of the Glee Club irom their trip, a benefit concert will be given at University Hall. The date is April '25, and the benefit should be a "rouser," as there is no organizition connected with the University which does so much to advertise the institut'on as has the Glee Club in the past, and is doing now. Ten of the mechanical and civil eng'neers left, Friday night, for a tour of inspeotion through the large manufaoturing eatablishments of Detroit, Cleveland, Cantón, Pittsburg and other places. The party in charge of Prof. M. E. Cooley, consisted of J. M. Croeby, C. P. E. DePuy, Ernest B. Conrad, D. B. Cheever, E. H. Neff, G. M. Walker, D. W. Spence, A. R. Benson, J. R. Kempf, S. H. Paine and G. B. Springer. Mr. Charles Nevins, of Detroit, gave an address before the students ot the University in the law lecture room, last Thursday evening. The room was filled, and the address proved very entertaining. His subject was "Elocution, Oratory, and Dramatic Art." Mr. Nevins has been an actor of prominence, and his rendering of several felections from Shakespeare delighted the young men and proved him enainen'ly an artist ia his line.
