Des Moinrs, Ia., April 11.- The last hopo for any modification of the prohibitory law by this Legislatura was Bhattered Thursday when the Senate buried both the Democratie caucus bill and tho Lav.ronce local-option measure. The former bill was defated by a vote of 21 ayes, 29 nays. The affirmaUve votes were cast by tha Demócrata and the one independent Republican, Senator Ilanchett. The rest of the Rrpublicans and Senators 15arrett and Ëagle, í.he two Union Labor Senators, voted in the negativo. The Lawrence bill followed. Tt differs from the Democratie bill inrestricting licenses to cities of 5,000, and makes the minimum fee 51,000 instoad of 8500. lt was lost on ongrossment by a vote of 84 to 13. As matters now stand licensa isdeadinthe öenato for this session, all büls on that subject either having been entirely defeated or indefinitely postponed. Tne Southern Michigan Fish and Game Protective Association wasformed iu Grand Rapids recently. The President is J. W. Fletcher, of Battle Creek, and the Secretary H. Dale Adams, of Galesburg. The title of the society indicates lts purpose.
