J. B. Corliss, the leadiog light in street railway enterprine, was in the city laat eveni-g, and tot the benefit of its readers Ths Register took the opportuoity of interviewing him upon the imentions of the company and the prospect-? for rap d transit in this city. Mr. Corliss said: "It ia no fault of mine that could be avoided that the road ig not built now. SiekneFS and death in the lamily of Mr. Barry were unlooked for barriers. This i now overeĆ³me, however, and arrangement? are completed go that we will be prepared to go ahead as soon as we can get the details straightened out. We have now enlisteJ the capitalista who are interested in the Sprague Electrical Co., in the venture aod they will furnish the fioancial backing, a-ide frora the $20,COO which Mr. McLiughlm and myself will put iuto it "The new members will not accept the original route, as it ia impracticable to run the loop line around the Univereity at present. We hare asked for another route which we teel iure will accommodate nearly the sume nuraber of people. When the main line is completed we will be ready to run spurs in any part of the city that will warrant it. ' The road will surely be built if the courcil will graut us these chancea. As an evidence of this we are williog to put up any reasonable forfeit. To-night I submitted a proposition with the council to deposit a eertifled check for $1,000, or give a b.rad or note fur $2,000, as a guarantee that the road will be completed by Sept. lt. We have no money to give away, but we are willing to stand by ihis offtT. If the amended ordicance is paased, I will agree to give you a ride in the cara by Sept. lat. There's one thing that I think must make itself plain to every citizsn, and that ia that the new enterprise will prove more beneficial to Ann Arbor than any that has ever been starled here."
