South Lyon will celébrate the Fourth. A racing track is wanted by the horsemen of Dundee. Livingston county has received but $6,233.34 for liquor tax this year. Stockbridge has a 50-year-old locust tree 10 feet and four inches in circumfereuce.- Pickett. A handsome window has been placed in SI. James' church,Dexter,in memory oí the late Dr. Gray. The June meeting of the Saline Farmers' Club was held at the residence of S. R. Crittenden, in Pittsfield, Friday. Butter was only eight cents a pound at Saline last week. At this pnce u hardly pays the expense of taking ït to tjwn. The measles are on the rampage at Saline. In one school 58 scholars were absent one day last week on account of this disease. The Fowlerville Agricultural Society will offer racing premiums amounting to 8700 at their fair, which will be held Sept. 17, 18 and 19. John Stapish, of Lyndon, lort a barn and contents by fire on the night of June 6. Theie was but $600 insurance, while the loss wtis fully $900. l'exter will celébrate the Fourth of July by a procession, speeches, fireworks and other ingredients which so stir the American heart with patriotism. The siimmer season at Cavanaugh Lake, near Chelsea, has opened up and the score of fine private cottages there are rapidlv filling with the families of the owners. Saline Observer: Geo. Johnson is the proud possessor of a fine pair of twin colts, both lively and vigorous, somethuig quite unusual with the quine faniily. At Stockbridge the liquor bonds were flxed at $3,ÜÜ0, but the members of the council wouldu't have done it if they had known that the Sun was going to kick ui such a row about it. Chelsea Herald : Last Sunday while Mrs. Rnth Minnis, aged 73 years, who lives nortk of Chelsea, was out riding, the horse ran away throwing her from the carriage, andbreaking her arm near the 6houlder. John Heselschwerdt, of Sharon, has purchased "Pluto," a handsome young four-year-old horse of exceedingly fine iormand good size, and is gaited tor speed, although nol handled much yet. - Chelsea Herald. Sunday last, the Baptists raised $190 which, with the amount on hand, more than covers the recent expenses connected with the repairing of the church. - Chelsea Standard. Liberal givers abide in that village. It is said that Thomas Birkett, of Dexter, has a great scheme on hand for putting an electric light plant inhismill at Birketts, running it by water power, and furnishing both Dexter and Chelses. with electric lights. A careless driver ran his wagon into the fine memorial fountain which was ■recently presented to Ypsilanti, one day last week, moving the fountain several inches on its foundation, but fortunately not damaging it badly. The Manchester Enterprise speaks a good word for the county fair : If the County Agricultural Society keeps up as it has gone so far this season, there will be a fair in Ann Arbor in the fall that will be worth attending, and there ought to be." Chelsea Herald : Last Friday morning while John R. Gates was driving along the railroad his horse took fright at a locomotiye, throwing Mr. Gates out and injuring his back and ankle quite badly, but he is now able to be out again. Pincknev Eispatch : During the severe thunáer storm on Friday night of last week, one of E. P. Campbell's horses was shocked by a bolt of lightning while in a pasture near his residence. The horse will live and Mr. Campbell informs us that it is fast im■roving. Ypsilantian : City Attorney Griffen had a registered sheep stolen last night, froni the pasture. The ewe had two lambs which were left in the field with a good mutton sheep which, probably, the rascáis were after. D. C. should abel the mutton sheep so there'll be no mistake next time. The Adrián Press devoted fifteen verses of doggerel last week to an effort toexplain the various methods of kissing' adopted in Lenawee county, the following being a sample verse : "The Adrián boy is city bred And ot anything vulgar has a terrible dread; So he stands aside with disgusted air While 'smother fellow kissee hls lady fair." Alon Mutchler thought to "monkey" vith Marshal LaLonge, Wednesday.and in consequence was speedily landed in the "quay."' Alon is to appear before Justice Owen next Tuesday, if he does not in the mean time avail himself of the opportunity giyen him to migrate to some other clime. - Dundee Reporter. Bundee Reporter : A farmer requests us to say to certain saloon keepers who sell liquor to minori in jugg, that any more such transactions will not be allowed to pass, but that the law will be applied. We.think that the said farmer had better apply the law or a club to the saloon keepers for past offences instead of a newsoaperthreatening item. Over 100 persons were present at the annual reunión of the Boynton, Rockwell, Killum and Storms families, which was held in Lima, June 7. After an excellent dinner, a literary program was given, being followed by the electian of officers, which resulted as folJows: G. W. Boynton, president; Wm. I)avid8on, vice-president; Ed. Spauldin, secretary ; „Wilbur Killum, treasurer. Ypsilanti Sentinel: Monday was a memorable anniversarv for Mr. Geo. Moorman, proprietor of the Occidental. June 9, 1830, just sixty years before, he first landed in Ypsilanli, then a small settlement in a wilderness. Mr. Moorman is gifted wilh a remarkable memory for dates and incidents, and one cannot fail to be interested in his reminibcences. But a very few of his arly acquaintances survive, and probably none of them are so well preserved. While several of the villages of this county are preparing to celébrate the anniversery of American independence, neither in Ann Arbor or Ypsilanti bas such an idea been suggested. Is the patriotism of the county confined to the smaller places? The dates on which the first fair will be held on the new fair giounds in this city are Sept, 30, Oct. 1, 2 and 3. The Dexter Leader had the dates twisted last week, the statement being made that the dates would be " Oct. 30 and Sept. 1, 2 and 3." Milan Leader: -'Old Johnny " Surridge came into town Wednesday afternoon leading nis horse, on which was a reinnant of harness. At the depot the horse had become frightened at the cars, and expressed its disgust at such thins by commencinp; to kick, and kept'right at it until it had kieked itself loose from the buggy, leaving Mr. Surridge comfortably seated therein. Damage light and no injuries to horse or man.
