Washington, Juno 28.- The President received the dependent pension bilí from Congress yesterday morning and referred it to the Secretary of the Interior for examination and report. Later on the bill was returned to the President, who at once signed it Under the law not less than 300,000 survivors of the war not now on the pension rolls are likely to take advantage of its provisions, exclusive of soldiers' widows, who are also provided for. The lowest estímate of the cost ia $40,000,000 per year, though some experts think the amount will not be lesa than $60,000,000. Washington, June 28. - Mr. Reed (Ia.) has prepared on behalf of the judiciary coramittee of the House a report on the bill agreed upon by the committee as a substituto for the original package bill. It first points out the differences between the two bilis, the Senate bill being applicable to a singlo subject of commerce - viz. : intoxicating liquors, and the House bill being applicable to all articles of commerce. The report says in the opinión of the committee all property which has been imported into the State and kept for sale ther oughtto be subject for all purposes to the jurisdiction of the State, and all persons who engage in trafflc within State ought to be subject to such rules as it may enact for the regulation oí that trafile. Washington, June 28.- A conscienco contribution of 83,000 in $1,000 gold certifleates was received by the Postoffice Department yesterday morning in an ordinary letter. In the letter accompanying the sender stated he had reeen tly sent another contribution of SI, 500, that being interest on the Slim he had defrauded the Government of. Washington, June 30.- The Government signal office reports the present month to have been the hottest on record in this country. Washington, July 1.- It is estimated at the Treasury Department that there has been a decreasi of about $20,000,000 in the public debt sínce June 1. This will tnake the total decrease for the fiscal year ended Monday SS7, 800,000, as against 8114,000,000 for the previous fisOal year. Washington, July 1.- The period for taking the eleventh census ended yesterday. Superintendent Porter saya that intormation received from all portions of the country indícate that there has been no serious hitch in the work.
