Spelman's Many Crimes
Bloominoto.v, 111., July 29. - John Spelman, who was arrested here Friday for robbing the Union ticket office at Evansville, Ind., is a man with natural thieving propensities. Last Thursday night tho gun store of Charles Ginehelin, of this city, was broken into and several fine guns stolen. Theburglary is fastened upon Spelman, and he has been bound over to answer for that offense. Sheriff Salter, of Pekin, 111., was here Monday with a warrant for Spelman, who, itischarged, robbed Oberley's jpwelry score in that city and stole S400 worth of jewelry. Spelman is also wanted by the po8t-office authorities for stealing a mail-pouch at Washington, 111., two months ago. He is also under Indictment for burglary at PeorĂa, where he committed thirtoen burglaries in one raontli. Spelman is thp wayward son of John Spelman, a wealthy distillery proprietor at Peoria, and his father has expended several thuusand dollars trying to keep the son out of trouble.
