THE BIG SHOW. Chicago, Sopt 20.- At the meeting of the World's Columbian Exposition yesterday George K. Davis, of this city, was elected director-general of the exposition. President Palmer announoed a list of twenty-one standing committees. The chairmen are as follows: Judiciary, rules and by-laws, William Lind6ay, Commissionor-ai-lar&e; tariffs and transportation, V. D. Groner, Virginia; forelgn attairs, Chauncey M. Depew, New York; fine arta, A. G. Bullock, Commissioner-at-large; science, history, literatura and education, O. V. Tousley, Minnesota; agricultura,' W. I. Buchanan, Iowa; live stock, J. L. Mitch(11, Wisconsin; horticulture and floricultura, W. Forsyth, California; flnance, Charles H. Jones, Missouri; auditing, T. E. Garvin, Indiana; ceremonies, J. D. Adams, Arkansas; tlassification, C. H. Deere, Illinois; manutactures, L. Brainerd, Connecticut; commerce, L. Lowndes, Maryland; mines nd mining, F. J. V. Chicago, Sept 23.- The South Park commissioners 'yesterday decided to give to the world's fair people the usa of Washington Park for the great exposition. This action will give the world's fair officials the use of Jackson Park, the Midway Plaisance, Washington Park, or at least a large portion thereof, and the Lake Front. The Lake Front will have two or three handsome buildings on it containing such exhibits as will be partloularly attractive at night, but the commission is almo3t unanimous in its desire for a major oortion of the fair at the southern end of the site. James A. McKenzie, of Kentucky, was elected vice-chairman of the exeontive committee at a salary of 38,000.
