cording to the new requirements, no person can belong to the Hobart Guild who is not either a communicant of the Episcopal chnrch or attached to that church. During the summer, Mrs. H. S. Frieze presented, in memory of her late husband, seventeen books to the library. Relatives of the late Rev. J. S. Large, of Traverse City, have contributed over 100. Rev. Henry Tatlock, and hisableassistant.Rev.W.O. Waters, are doing much to make the guild an ideal organization of the kind. The managers of the choral union have already made arrangements for three concerts to be given during the coming winter. They are the following: Miss Adele Aus der Ohe, November 1: New York Philharmonic Club, December 10; Boston Symphony orchestra, some time in May. Prof. Stanley will endeavor to persuade the latter to give two concerts in this city. The glee club will sing at Bufl'alo, December 22; Cleveland, December 23; Detroit, December 24; Chicago, December 25; St. Paul, December 26; Minneapolis, December 27 ; Kansas City, December 29; St. Louis, December 31; Cincinnati, January 2. J. A. Jameson has been chosen president of the club. - Two or three weeks ago the university authorities predicted no increase in number over ihat reached last year. They been disappointed, for the present indications are that at least 200 more will be enrolled this year than ever before, and that the total will not be lfss than 2,400. The law studenta have organized their mimic court, ohristened it "Michigan Club Court" and elected the following officers: Chief justice, G. R. IrviDg ; associate justice, T. J. Cavanaugh ; clerk, E. F. Gower; prosecuting attorney, G. A. Brown ; sheriff, S. Treby. A successor to Henry Wade Rogers will be elected at the next meeting of ui e regents, wnicn is to take place on October 15. Tne foot ball game which was to have been played with the D. A. C. last Saturday, did not come off, owing to the failure of the Detroit eleven to keep their engagement. The freahman "spread" will begiven one week from to-morrow night, in Nickel's hall. Sophomore girls will at at that time " rush " their young sisters in first-class style. The faculty will try to persuade the freshmen and sophomores to abolish their time-honored "rush" and substitute the more civilized "tug-of-war." E. M. Brown, lit '80, took his Ph. D. at Goettingen, last June, and is now professor of modern langu&ges in the University of Cincinnat'. A book will soon be published, oontaining a full account of the trip made by the Rocky Mountain Club during the past suminer. The Sophies will meet next Saturday, for the purpose of electinga football captain and declaring war against the guileless fresh. W. E. Goddard, '90, who was president of the S. C. A. last year, now holds the position of principal of theMarshall high school. The old joke of placing the word 'push" on the front door has been perpetrated upon the freshmen again this fear. Miss Silver, state secrotary of the Y. VI. C. A., delivered an address in the Jniversity chapcl on Monday evening. Fresh and Soph will again meet in dire conflict this year - probably two weeks trom next Saturday. The dental department has two stulents bearing respectively the names of Casebetr and Selzer. Three hundred and four students are acking their brains this year, with the tudy of Psychology. The choral unión has begun to pracjce on the Chriatophorus of Josef theiii berger. The baujo club will soon be reorganzed by its former efficiënt leader, Henry Hang. Prof. Thompson has recently pubished a new ed:tion of "Equity Pleadng." President Angelí gave the usual openng address before the S. C. A., last Sunay. Over ö,000 books have been added to he general library since Oct. 1, 1889. The first number of the ChronicleArgonaut will appear next Saturday. The Literary Adelphi will ziye an inormal social on Saturday evening.
