Nw Yokk, Oct. 4. - The details given in Dun's review of trade show that in all parts of the country and in all important branches of business there is phenomenal activity, and nevertheless there is comparativo freedom from speculativeexcitement ordisturbances. The general soundness oí trade is shown by the reports of failures, which for the third quarter of 1890 were smaller in number and amount of liabilities than for che same quarter of 1889, though in Canada rather larger in both respecta. The decrease in number in tho United States wassmall - 2, 19ö thisyear,against 2,276 last year - but the liabilities were but 835,452,436, against $50,227,045 last year, showing a decroaáe in the average for each firni failing. The business failures occurring throughout the country during the last seven days number 197, as compared with 219 last week, For the corresponding week of last year_the figures were 200.
