Richard Snell died at hia home at Whitmore Lake, October 10, of peritonitis, at the age of seventy-nine years and seven months, Mr, Snell was a well-known and highly respected pioneer of Washtenaw county. He was orn in Montgomery county, N. Y., rebruary 14, 1812, and at the age of wenty-one yeurs, lie carne to Michigan and purchased a farm in Lima. The same year he was married to Fanny iennett, who with one son, E. W. Snell, of Whitmore Lake, survives him. Like all of our pioneerá Mr. Snell met with many hardships, but was a hard working intelligent farmer as we!l as a good, latge-hearted, public-spirited citizen, having been üeveral times honored with public offices in Lima. During early life, and even until middle age he was possessed of unusual corporal etrength and something more than average mental ability. He was an earnest workers inreligiousmattersand has with othersbeen instrumental in the establishment of the Methodist church at Lima Center. In 1872 deceased removed from hls farm to Ann Arbor, where he remained until 1883, whon he removed, this time to Whitmore I.ike, his residence up to the time of his ath, Por a number of years Mr. Sne i had been afflicted with "brain trouble, ■ iiich gradually arew on him until he was finally mentally incapacitated and for many months ha had been in an exceedingly pitiable condition.
