Washington, Oct, 14. - Justico Samuel P. Miller died last night at 8 minutes of 11 o'clock without a struggle and apparently without pain. He never retrained consciousness from the stroke of apoplexy Friday last. histice Miller was 74 years of age. ín 1802 l'resident Lincoln appointed Mr. Miller as Associato Justice of the Supreme Court. Belknap, Secretary of War during President lirant's last term, was found deadin his bed at 9 a. m. yesterday, he having expired from apoplexy. Ile was 61jyears of age. (eneral lielknap was lastseen alive on Saturday nigbt about midnight when he was on his way to his rooms, apparently in excellent' health. Oct. 14. - The October term of the L'nited States Supreme Court has begun. The court met at noon, but owing to the critical condition of Associate Justice Miller, at onco adjourned. A BKW SOCIKTY. ■ 'Washington, Oct. 18. - An organization has been perfected here under the name "Daughters of the American Revolution." The purpose of the society is to secure the historioal spots of America and erect thereon suitable rnonuments to perpetúate the memories of the heroic deeds of men ' and women who aided the revolution. Mrs. Iicnjamin Ilarrison .has been elected president-gencral of the society, and Mrs. Flora Adama Darling vice-presiJent-goneral-at-large in charge of the organizatlon. A number of vicy-presidents-general and other offlcers. including an advisory board, were also elected. The ttrst undertaking by the society will be the completion of the monument to the memory of Mary Washington. Uesolutions have been adopted favoring the passage of the bill introduced in the House by Sherman, of New York, arranging for the mar'dns; by the Governmentof the blstorical spots of the revolution, setting apart October 11 as the permanent anniversary or meeting day of the society in c, nm imaration of the discoery of Air, "■.u, and requesting that a special building or space be set aside in the World's Columbian Exposition for the oxhibition of the relies and other things llluëtraSlve of the period of the America.n revolution. which exhibit ehall afterward be brought to this city and be permanently cöntinued here.
