PHENO MENAL ! The Census just conipleted will show that the United States has doubled in population in the last thirty years, and that it is to-day one of the largest aggregations of people speaking one language to be found on the globe. Wonderful as this showing is, the tremendous advance made by the nation in certain lines of manufacturing is still more striking. Take for instancc the Silk Industry. Twenty years ago we imported nearly all our Silks, American made gooi Is being too poor to be considered worthy of notice. The American Dress Silks were lústreles?, poorly finished, and lacking in almost every essential of successful workmanship. That was only twenty years ago and yet, such have been the gigantic strides, taken by the industry, that a journ'al published this month in London, in giving the statistics of the world's Silk manufactures, place3 F ranee first, and the United States second. Today, we produce the best wearing and most popular goods in the world, and foreign silks are seldom seen and little appreciated. Of all thfí manufacturera' in this countrv none rank hieher than the makers of the famous " Gold Medal " warranted Silks, of which brand have the solé agency for Ann Arbor. An attractive window display of these and other desirable Silks is being made this week by this firm', and the prices placed on the various qualities will prove too tempting for the average fair shopper to resist. For instance, a Warranted Black Gros-Grain is offered at 75c. Extra heavy and wide Failes at 98c. and $1.23. Superb Surahs at 75c, and $1.00. Snperb D'Almas at SI. 23, $1.47 and $1.65. Satin Luxors at $1.15, $1.23, $1.50 and $1.75. Every one of these is warrant d to give perfect satisfaction in wear and are unusually and undeniably cheap. Our advice to the ladies is to investigate these tempting bargains which E. F. MILLS & CO. are offering, for surely sucli an array of beautiful fabrics at popular prices was never seen in Ann Arbor before.
