Know the character of the children. Intellectual athletics are needed daily. Artiflciality is to be avoided at any oost of effort. Wake up the class, and do not magnify faüures. A new setting for old methods is always welcome. Do not ask the same of slow children as of the quick. Be caref ui that children do not sit with wet clothes or damp feet. Rally a child from mortification unless he ivill profit by humüiation. Do not deluge your school with information on any subject in which you are a spscialist. There will be prose enough in the life oL every child if you put into it all the poetry you can. Good paragraphing is one of the essentials of good writing that many teachers do not appreciate. Know what you wish to do when you go to the recitation, and what you have dons when you leave it. Teach a child how to use books, and you have placed the keys of limitless knowledg in his hands. Don't be af raid of the naines of the "parts of speech." A verb, noun or pronoun is harmless, if it is not fashionable. Give a business turn to all your arithmetic work in the way of writing nnmbers, as well
