Politics had subsided, the excitement of the riot had almost died away and Ann Arbor had again became quiet atid peaceful, wlien on Monday evening last a bombshell was shot off in the city council chamber. It was notliinp more or less than a request from the new inter-urban railwav company that they ba given a present of several of Ann Arbor'a flnest streets. Thev ask (very modestl) ) that the council grant them a right of way on some one of the following routes: First, from Grove-st to Hanover Square, down Division-st to Huron, down Huron to Fourth-ave, to Beakes-st, and along Broadwuy to the city limits ; second - on Forest-ave to Hill-st, to Firstst, to North-st, to Beakes-st, Broadway and Dixboro road ; third - from the south end of Divisionst, thence north to Huron, thence west to Fourth-ave. thence to Beakes and out Broadway; fourth - from the junction of Yusilanti road with II i 11 st, thenie north on Fifthst, to Be,akes, thence along Beakes-st, Broadway and Dixboro load to city limits. Inotlier words ihey desire iO run a dummy i ngine, purlinu steam and smoke, a p.issei ge r coach and a car for expresa and baggat; down some of our best resident stieets, at Uie same time Eubjecting our unobjectionable electric railway to a ruinous competition. There is no demand for any bui-it thins'. The present street railway gives good service and accommodates the public well. That they are wilhng to do still more is shown by the propobition which they made to the council last Monday night. They will run lines from the inter.iection of Williams and titate-sts southerly along Siate-st to Monroe, thence easterly aloug Monroe to Hill, thence alontr Hill to intersection ol' present line on Wasbtena w-ave; also Iroui the S.ate-st line to the new alhletic grounds ; biso the Detroit-st line across bridge and along Broadway ; also along Stale-st northerly to Huron and thence west on Huron-st lo the city limits. The company expiessed its willingness to complete the Unes mentioned within one year from the present date. The council referred both Communications t ) the street and nuance committee. It is not at all likely that they will take favorable action upon the very thin proposition made by the Ann Arbor and Yp&ilanti company.
