Detroit, Mich., December 13. -The convention of the Fedcration of Labor yesterday adopted a resolution on Congress to adopt an eight-liour law, to be enforced directly and througb contractors. and petitioned Congress In (avor of woman suffrage. The offlcers elected were; Samuel Uompers, President; P. J. McUuire, of Philadelphia, First Vice-President; Wiili. m E. Carney, of Pittsburgh. Seconrt Vice-President; John B. Sinnow, 'l'reasurer; Chris Evans, of New York. Secretary. Birmingham, Ala., was rhoscn i the place of meeting of next year's convention. Detroit, Mich., Dec. 15. -The convention of the Federation of Labor Saturday morning decided to use its influence for the appointment of women faetory Inspectora and the organization of working women. Congress is to be asked to look into the "sweating1" system in New York. The repeal of the New York conspiracy law will be called for. The convention finally fixed the salaries of officers at the present figures. A resolution was adopted petitioning the management of the world's fair to make no distinction in classifying exhibits made male or female workers. The convention then adjourned tint dit.
