They werfe ref erred to the committee on privileges and eleetions. b'enator Hoar (Mass.) spoke in favor of the elections bill, and was followed by Senator Wolcott (CoL), who made au anhnated speech ayainst the meai Washington, Jan. 1. - A resolution was adopted ín the Benate yesterday directing' the superintendent of the census to report at the earliest possible moment the population of the United States according to the census of 1890 !by Con rrcssinnal districts and counties. The elections bill was furthcr considered. Adjourned to Friday. Washington, Jan. 3. - The Senatemet yesjerday, bilt without transacting any business adjourned until noon on Monday. Washington, Jan. C. - In the Senate yesterday Mr. MoConnell (llep.),__of Idaho, took the oath of office as Senator. The elections bill was displaced and. the financial bill taken up in its stead and diaeussed. The apportionment bill was reported back from the census committee without amendment.
