Lo-ndon, Jan. 12 - The steamer Iíritannia frora Leith carne into collision with the steamer Bear from Grangemouth in the Firth of Forth, Scotland, at an early hour Sunday morning. The Bear sunk immcdiately, her crew haring no time to launch a boat or make any efïort whatever to save themselvcs. Oí the fourteen men on board the Iiear twelve went down with the vessel. The two others were reseucd bj' a boat from the Britannia. After the colusión the Britannia, whieh was badly damaged, transferred her torty-flve passengen to tho steamer Thamea umi was taken in tow by that vessel, the two Bteamers proeeeding slowly in the direetion of Lcith. They luid not pone far. ]"vever, beiore the hawser eonnectin; the vessel broke, and before another line could be carrted to the damaged vessel she gave a terrible plunge and sank beneath the ■waves. Fortunately the crew had put on life-belts gftcr he eollision with the Bear, and all. with the exception of the chief engineer, managed to keep ufloat until they were picbed up by boats from the steamer ''luimes. The chief engineer went. down with the vessel and nothing □ of him again.
