Shelby, charged with the murder of Mrs. Sallie Moore, v as taken by a mob of 100 unknown men from the jail and hanged. ïhe sheriff resisted and was roughly handled. Shelby fought desperately and severely hurt several of the mob. He v;is almost dead beforo they ffot him out. The murder was committed in 1887, near Woodville, a villag-e near WicklifEe, just across from Cairo, 111. Shelby had been sentenced for life, but had been jjranted a new trial frorn the eourt of upprals. The rrjob said they had pivviously lnmg JÍart Shelby, under indietment as accessory.
