Mabquette, Mich., June 12.- The brakes failed to wolfc on a South Shore rain going down L' Anse hill at 1:30 Thursday morning The train plunged martly down the long, steep Sfrade, jumpcd the track in front of the station, and converted the station into kindling wood. Enjrineer Con Harrington, of this city, stood at his post and was draun frotn the wreek with a brokeu h'% and other serious injuries. His recovery is doubtful. The other trainmen escaped with bruises. Twelve cars were demolished. One was loaded with horses, and the shrieks of the injured animáis added to the horror of the scène. The L'Anse grade is the steepest between the Allegheny and the Bocky raountains. Several accidenta have occurred there.
