New Vohk, Auff. 10. - The introductiou to "Poor's Manual of Kailroads''for 1891 has been issued. It shows, among other things. that the total number of miles of railroads in the United States at the close of 1890 was 160,817, of which 5,739 miles were constructed during the year. The total amout of capital invested is fijfured at 810,132,685,900, an increase over the year previous of 8441,693,651. The RTOM earninffs of the roads were $1,090, 847, 428,equalto 10.8 per cent. on investinent. Net caminas were 8346,921,318, or :i.4 per eent. on capital. The number of passengers carriƩd by railroads durinf the year was 020,489,00.
