B, O., Aug. 10. - A special to the Evening Dispatch froin Lima, 0., says: One of the boldest bank robberies and murders ever perpetrated in this section of the country occurred Saturdáy morning at Columbus Grove, a town of about 2,000 people, Vi miles north of here. About 8:30 a man appeared in" the door with a revolver in each hand. He immediately began shooting. Cashier Maple was struck twice, once in the arm and once in the right side. As he feil to the floor, an old farmer, William Van Debark, aged (50, entered the door, having come to get his money for some hogs he had just sold. The robber turned and shot him through and through. The old man died of his wounds a few hours later. A third man sat in the lobby of the bank paralyzed with fear. He was not molested. The desperado then grabbed $1,300 in greenbacks, shoved theminthe pockets oi his sack coat and darted out the door shouting: "I'm a second Jesse .lames." Quite a crowd had been attracted b.y the sound of the shots, but there was a scattering1 wlien the wildeyed murderer appeared on the street, having a gun in either hand and shooting indiscriminately. One of the bystanders, Henry Buek, failed to got out of the way tast enough and was struck down by a bullet from the rapid'y-speaking revolvers. The fellow ran to the outskirts of the town and disappeared in a big corn field. The desperado is described as being short and heavy set, with full face and small black mustache. He ore a black alpaca -ap. black sack coat, blue pants witli white stvipe. and no vest. He appeared to be about ; I or :;." years old. A posse was quic'ily organized and started in pursuit. If found, the fellow will be shot down like a dog. It is thought the wounds of Map' e and Buck are not neoessarily fatal. Van Debark, who was killed, was a prospi'i'ous fornaer in Union township. He leaves a arge family. A big reward i offered for the capture of the villain. Columbits Grove, Ü., Aug. 11. - The local authorities have practically abandoned the chase after the bank robber and murderer of .Mr. Vandemark. as it is believed he is beyond reach. The pursuit will, however, be taken np liv proïessional detectives, who wi.l be inspired b,y rewards uggregating over 551,000 ofCered by the town, county and bank officials.
