Timber Going To Waste

Washington, Sept 8. -The forest fires which have swept over many sections of the northwe.st have partially destroyed large tracts of government timber which must go to waste unless it is saved this fall and winter. Much of the land is in contest, and the people who hope to secure title are anxious to save the timber before it goei to witste. But they are debavred from doing so by the tfcnber laws, whieh prevent the cutting of timber while contests are in progress.
