MARBLE WORKS. J. Baumgardner, SLCCESSOR TO ANTON EISELE. This is one of Ann Arbor's wellknown and long established industries. It was founded by Anton Eisele in 1868, who continued in it until nis death, in 1887, when it was purchased by J. Baumgardner, who has continued it at the same stand and made suchimprovements and additions to the stock as the increase in business demanded . He has six men in his employ a greater portion of the time and is prepared to do all kinds of cemetery work, building work, stone work, etc. II is special line is the cemetery work, and he carries a complete line of all kinds of marble and granite stones and monuments, as well as iron and terra cotta vases for lawn and cemetery purposes. Mr. Baumgardner uses great care in bis cholee oí stock for his work and uses only the best material. The marble used is brought in the rough from Georgia. New York and Vermont. The fine red granite goods are importeil from Sweden and Scotland; the other nades of granite being brought trom American quarriea In western Rhode Island, Barre, Yr., Qulncy, Mass., Con cord, N. H., and Maine. All carving cutting, etc, is done in the works by Mr. Uamnganlner's skilled workmen, withthe exception of thegranitf work, and on that the lettering and tracing are done mostly here. Man; line stones from these marble works adorn the cemeteries of Ann Arbor and those of neighboring places. Shipments have frequently been made to points as f ar away as Iowa, Indiana and New York. All classes of work in the building line also come from these works, such as sills, caps, copings, winclow top?, etc. The building of stone walks is one of the main branches of the business. The work in this line can recommend itself, as many "samples" of it can be seen in Ann Arbor. The fine walks in front of the stores of Bach & Abel, Mills & Co., Wm. Allaby, the Maynard Block, etc, and the 1,330 feet of new walk recently put in eastof the High School building all speak for themselve3. A TRIAL OF OUR WORK WILL CONVINCE YOU.
