Conde has gone east on a visit. Mrs. Van Blareuni, we are pleased to see, is much better. Rev. Mr. Conrad has accepted a cali to some lucrative and pleasant field of labor. Solo. Miss Eva Holmes entertained a few young friends Tuesday evening. Mrs. Quinn is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Cunninghanj. Miss Pauline Klager, who has been spending the summer at Ionia, has returned. Miss Alma Litchfleld has returned from a two months' yisit i Lansing and other northern cities. Charles Klager has purchased six acres of timber of Mrs. Dillon, which will be sawed into lumber the coming year. Miss Ella Nixon, who taught with success in Holmes' district of Scio last spring, has returned to her duty for the oming year Cbelsea. Mrs. Mark Lowry has returned from Omaha, Neb. Mrs. A. Mensing and Mrs. K. Gieske spent last week in Toledo. The Misses Cassidy will move into their new house on Orange-st. Mr. A. N. Morton spends the week with his family. His fon Fred is home from Detroit. The Chelsea Union Agricultural society will hold a fair at Recreation park on Uct. 13, 14 and 15. Rev. D. H. Conrad is suffering from rheumatism. Thomas Holmes occupied the pulpit last Sabbath. Mr. and Mrs. Byrou Wright have moved to Detroit. J. H. Sackett has rented Mr. Wright's residence. Mrs. C. II. Kempf and daughter Myrta returned Saturday from an extended trip in the northern part of the state. Salem. Miss Pilla McGraw is visiting friends in Detroit. A Chatauqua circle is to be organized in Salem. Mrs. Frederick spent last Monday visiting friends in Windsor, Ont. Miss Carrie Klager, of Ann Arbor, spent last week with Mrs. G.M. Waters. A corn husking bee entertainment will be held in Haywood hall in about three weeks. Mrs. Beadle and father, George Thayer, of Syracuse, N. Y., visited relatives here last week. Rev. Mr. Leiand and wife are attending the Wayne Baptist association annual meeting at Parshallville. The monthly union Sunday-school concert was held in the Congregational church last Sabbath afternoon. The program was esceptionally srood and the building crowded. Hilan. The Milan band playea at a Saline picnic lest week. Mrs. O. A. Kellog is visiting Toledo friends this week. Mr. Harry Whitehead is seriously ill with typhoid fever. Mrs. C. M. Fuller is visiting Ann Arbor friends this week. Miss Grace Huntington isvisiting Detroit friends this week. Miss K. Knight returned from her Blissfield visit Saturday. Mrs. Ed. Knickerbocker and family leave for Hasting, Neb., Wednesday. Miss Jane Stannard, of Dexter, was the guest of Attorney G. R. Williams and family one day last week. Last Wednesday evening the reception at Mr. M. Edwards' residence, in honor of Rev. G. E. Sloan and family, was well attended and there were many beautiful presents gi ven to the pastor and family. Wbitmore Lakt. Flete Smith, of the Clifton, ia ill but not seriousjy. The ice company is shipping large quantities of ice to Toledo. There was a pumpkin pie social at the residence of L. J. Stiles Tuesday evening. Mr. John Foley, of Milwaukee, was visiting his sister-in-law, Mrs. Phil Foley, last week. Mrs. Baxter assisted the choir here again last Sabbath morning with her euperb contralto voice. A goodly number were out Sunday morning to welcome back their gifled minister, Rev. Jennings. Mr. L. J. Stiles is moving back to his farm in Green Oak, near Silver Lake. He will be settled this week. Mr. Baxter was with his family at the Clifton over Sunday. He returned to his business in Detroit Monday. Mr. W. B. Ram and lady are away on a trip to Ionia, Grand Rapids and elsewhere. They will be absent about a week. Miss Lillian Lumbard, organist at the M. E. church, was presented with a beautiful hymnal by her friends, last week. Miss Foley is visiting her aunt, Mrs Phil Foley, a few days, awaiting the opening of the U. of M., which she will attend. Mr. Philip Roper, of Green Oak, is dangerously ill with cáncer in the mouth. No hopes of his recovery are entertained. Mrs. Fred Smith was visited by a sister from Grand Junction, Iowa, last week. Her mother, who resides at Chelsea, is still with her. Mr. Allie Stevens is digging a canal to his boat house, preparatory to storing his boats. He is painting them at his leisure, and is always doing something to beautify his place and make it convenient. The friends and neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Wilsou gave them a genuine surprise last Saturday evening, the 2'Hli, the occasion being the birthday of Mrs. Wilson. The company presented Mrs. Wilson with a beautiful water set. A genial, good social time was had.
