For the benefit of the Lapham church at Salem, the Ladies' Aid society will hold a fair, December 3, at the resldence of H. C, Packard, commencing at 1 o'clock i'. m. Th ere will be a great variety of beautiful things from which to Belect Christmas gifts. Lima. Insects are making inroads upon winter wheat. The Patrons of Industry will meet next Thursday evening. Reaben King and daoghter, who have been vieiting Miss Vina Johnson, have returned to their home in Canada. Webster. The sale of the estáte of the late Wm. Tubbs takes place Thursday. Supervisor Ball has returned froin Ann Arbor. Webster's taxes are higher this year. Rev. Mr. Lincoln changes pulpits next Sunday witb Rev. Mr. Thurston, of Pinckney. Rev. Leroy Warren, state superintendent, preached at the Congregational church recently. The Ladies' Missionary society holds a tea at the residence of Mrs. W. E. Boyden Friday evening. The Webster Reading Circle meets Saturday evening. The studies this year are mental anthmeüe and .bnglish and American literature. Daniel Webster forms the subject of this meeting. Wtaitmere Lake. Major William Stevens was at the lake last Saturday. N. W. Stevens, of Ann Arbor, is the gnest of the Lake House. Mr. Baxter and lady, of Detroit, spent Sunday at the Clifton House. F. M. Dodge has dispensed with bis crutches and is getting along finely. Mrs. Rane is troubled with rheumatifin and is no better atthis writing. The next service at the Methodist church will be held next Sunday morning at 10:30 a. m. The reunión of Company G, Third Michigan Cavalry, will be held at the Clifton House, Thursday Nov. 5, A large number of our young people will take in the Episcopal social at Peter Galatian's in Green Óak.Wednesday evening, November 4th. James Watkins has an auction next Tnesday. He is going into business with his brother-in-law, Lyman Cate, at Milford. We understand he is about to sell his farm to a Mr. White who Uves one-half mile east of Walsh's corners in Northfield. Saline. Dr. A. 8. H. Gooding was in town Friday. Miss Ada Liesemer, of Ann Arbor, was in town Monday. H. ï. Eddy, of Morrice, is visiting old friendsand relatives here. Miss Edessa Aldrich entertained a few friends on Friday evening. Elmer E. Rouse and wife, of Benton Harbor.are visiting Mr. Rouse's parents. Mrt Reynolds, T. D. Ford and ladies drove toTecumseh Sunday afternoon. Misses Ola Rogers and Maude Lapman, of the Normal, spent the last of the week here. Miss Allie Bortle has returned to Ypsilanti to complete her course at the business college. Mrs. A. B. Van Duzer and little daughter left on Wednesday for a month's visit at Grand Rapids. On Siturday morning occurred the death of John Warner, with erysipelas, after an illness of enly three days. The wedding of Charles H. Miller and Miss Anna E. Cobb, which took place on Thursday eyening, was an event of unusual interest. The ceremony was performed by Rev . Potter in the presence of about forty friends and relatives, after which a sumptuoua] repast was Her ved to the guests. Mr. and Mrs. Miller then took their departure on a trip to the northern part of the state. ■lian. Mrs. D. VVardle will move to Detroit this week. ■- Mrs. H. Kinear and daughter moved to Kalamazoo last week. Mr. and Mrs. Crandle returned from their visitine tour Saturday. Miss Millie Hitchcock closed her fall term of school at Whittaker Friday afternoon. Six ounces of melted silver coin was found in the debris in the burnt district Tuesday. Miss May McGregor closed her fall term of school in the Mead district Friday evening. Rev. Jay HuntingtDn left for Detroit Tuesday, to attend the Baptist State association, he being a member of the board. Some of the ladies of Milan were out on a soliciting expedition, Friday and Saturday, for the fire sufferers. Each and every one of the citizens responded generously. Married - A. J. Shakespeare, of Kalamazoo, to Miss Grace Marvin, of YpsilaDti.October 27, at the residence of the brides's grandoarents, Mr. and Mrs. D. Aylesworth, Rev. J. W. McGregor oificiating. Died, October 22, at Maumee, Obio, Mrs. J. Lyons aged eighty-three years. Deceased was brought back to Milan, her former home. The funeral was held at the Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon, Rev. J. Mudgeofficiating.
