A Model fUhinj Smuk. Captain T. W. Collins, of the United Statee fien commission, who will have in hia charge the fishery exhibits at Chicago, gives a full description of the echooner Grampus, constrncted nnder his special direction, as the model of the fishing Binack of today. There are many things required in a vessel nsed for fishing parposes. She must have speed, and at the same time be able to withstand the heaviest weather. Absolute trial has shown that the Grampas not only has a clean pair of heels, bnt can take the ronghest blows. What Captain Collins has shown is that there is constant danger when smacks are built with the center ol gravity not sufficiently low as to allow the vessel to right herself. Disregard of what was an element of safety was the cause of the loss of eighty-two echooners sailing out of Gloucester alone between 1874 and 1883 and the drowning of 895 men. Not only is there peculiarity of build in the Grampus, but attention has been paid to her rig. The object in view was to produce ',' safe, economical, all tiround fishing vessel." The Grampus is 81 feet 6 inches long, her extreme beain 22 feet 3 inches; greatest depth, 11 feet 1 inch; tonnage, 83.30. The Grampus haa been tried in all weathers, has been found to be a swif t and safe eraf t, and has done a great deal of good work.-1 New York Times. Common Soap Rots Clothes and Chaps Hands.
