The action of the regents, last week, in authorizing the medical faculty to establish a training school for nurses in connection with the uew hospital was very important. Already circulara have been issued, ehowing the scope of the work and the qualifieations of the applicants. The course of training extends over two years. The women candidates must be between twenty and thirty years of ag?. They must present a certifícate of good moral character from a clergyman and a testimonial of good health from some physician. The first month of service will be a month of trial. At the end of thU time applicants must pass an examination in penmanship, arithmetic and English dictation. After their acceptance, the nurses will reside in a home which will be furnishedby the hospital authorities. The first year they will actas assistants in the wards and the second they will be assigned to special work. The remuneration the first year will be $50, the second $75. The nurses will all wear uniforma of pale blue gingbam with white cups and linen collars and cuff.s. They will be on duty each day from 7:J0 a. m. to 7:30 p. m., but will be allowed half a day on Sunday and on some one week day. At the completion of their course they will receive a diploma and will be expected, after graduation, to make an annual report of iheir work to the superintendent of the hospital. Already several applications have been received for these position?. It cannot be doubted but thatthe work of the nurses will prove of great advantage to the medical department.
