Tha U. of M. rugby team is doing well, but - it has lost two more game?. On Thursday last the Cleveland Athetic club defeated the Michigan" team jy a score of 8 to 4. The ground was sHppery - but not lialf so slippery, it is paid, as the referee, who üid his best to bring about the succees of the Cleveland team. The umpire, Ralph Stone, of the University, did his bestto secute the rights of Michigan but his efforts availed but little. This is the testimony o', the home team whether it is unbiased or not could only be determined by a disinterested party. The members of the Ann Arborteam wre: DePont.Mowrey, Tupper, Jefferiep, Thomas, Griffin, Hay es, Sherman, Rittinger, Van Inwagen and l)ygert. At Chicago on Saturday last the igau team met again their old time antagonist, the Cornellians. Both teams fouglit hard and Michigan was fairly beaten by a score of 10 to 0. The referee, Ralph Stone, carne from Michigan, and the umpire, A. J. Baldwin, came from Cornell. The day was a cold bne umlthere was several inches of snow on the ground, which considerably einbarrassed the playera. The relations between the teams was highly cordial. Tbe Detroit Athletic club Miíi'ered a defeat, Thursday, at tbe bande of tle Junior lit team. The score was 22 to 0. ES ROLUf ENT FK D BBS. Ñew students continue to joln the great army already enrolled on the steward's books. On Tnesday the number of' names on the books was 2,590, of whom 187 belonged to the dental, 378 to the medical, 632 to the law, 7S to the homoepatuie, 1,221 to tbe literary and 91 to the pharmacy department. The number entering after this üiiit' last year was as follows: Pharmacy, 4; literary, 51; medical, 9; law, 43; dental, 8; htimoepathy, 2; total, 117. Assuming that as many students will enter this year, the total will exceed 2,700. The number of names appearing in the catalogue is likely to be about 2,650. ABOÜND THE CAMPUS. The regenta meet on the 16th. The University Mission Band has forty members. Thereis talkof lightmg the library with electricity. The "fresh" hts will try to elect officers next Saturday. One of the freshman medies, E. St. John Carrow, hails from Xew Zealand. The University Musical Society will meet tonight to consider the school of music project, The University hospital is now open and the number of patients ia so large that all cannot be accommodated. Cbief Justice Samuel Maxwell, of Nebraska, on Monday began his course of lectores before the law Department on Code Pleading. There are some students who, not content with studying ei days in the week, wish an opportunity to use the library on Sunday. The national couventiou of the Gamma Phi sorority is being held in this city. A large reception takes place this evenihg at Newberry Hall. "Resolved that selfishness ia a greater promoter of civilization than benevolence" is the subject of the debate before the Jeffersonian society tomorrow erening. Mrs. W. W. Beman will give a soprano solo. A snpplementary law announcement has just been issued. It appears that the faculty now includes the following: Resident fnll professors, 6; librarían, 1; lecturera and professors from other departments, 13; instructor, l quiz masters, 5; total, 2G. The Ann Arbor Choral Union gave a concert recently in which the numbers were. principally difficult music, and which praiaing the work as nearly perfect, the Courier- still keeping up that strain of discontent with which even the paper is tinged- complains beca use the familiar strains of simple airs were not heard. Miss Fasquelle, Miss Louise Hennequin, Mrs. E. M. Irish and Miss Gertrude Irisli, of this city, and Mr. and Mrs. Borradaile, of Detroit, spent Thanksgiving day the guests of Prof. and Mrs. Alfred Hennequin, of Detroit. They were entertained at tbe Cadillac Hotel, and in the evening attended the production of "Eobin Hood" at ihe Detroit opera house.
