According to a report prepared by the firitish Emba88y iu Berlin, Germany has no reason to regret the adoption of the policy of protection. The report says: "The number of work peoplc in Germany has increased about ó per cent, each year since 1S82, and is now estimated to reach 7,000,000. Since 1888 a general rise in wages has taken place in most industrial districtü, ainounting to between 10 and 25 Der cent.,while the cost of the necessaries of life bas decreased."
