Five years ago Ann Arbor was just feeling tlie first resulta of the boom to which she owes her great prosperity today. On April 8, 1886, J. H. Stark wrote for th8 paper a poem in which he prophe8ied many things which have since come to pass. The late Mr. Kittredge promised that as soon as these prophesies were fulfilled, he would republish the poem in The Reoistbr. Now that the Michigan Central depot has been erected, electric lights have been burning, electric cars have been running and seweis are practically assured, it is our opiniĆ³n that the time has come for the fulflllment of the promise, and we therefore uladlv publish the pnpiii : Friends, 1 arn out Dl waddllug clothtt And I can -.valk alune; I knew when I got water works All other ihiugs wouM come. I'll have the flnest depot built Within the inighty west, And l'il accept ol notbing now That's not the very best I soon shall have electrlc lights To turn Dlght Into day, And then you'll 6ee upon my stret The gaj est of the gay. I now demand of you, my friends Sewen, boih broad and deep, The gcrms of slckness and or death Quickly away to sweep. Street cars ? Why yes, they'U come In time Have patience, dears, I pray, Vour llttle feet shall hare a rest And at no dlant dey. Our stalwart men shall have their shows Mark well whafer I say, For lam the Athens of the West, And I am here to stay.
